Effective Prayer

Week V (and beyond)

After these four weeks of, hopefully, intense prayer times, you should have had many personal revelations and assurances that you are on the right track. God may have even given you spiritual dreams, for revelation or encouragement. He may have answered prayers to show He is very real and has heard and is pleased with your journey within, as you seek Him with all your heart. Or He may have talked with you during your waking hours, revealing new and delightful ways to see what used to be the mundane things of your life. In addition, He may have alerted you to the amazing, serendipitous events that surround a soul whose only desire is to know Him deeply. Here are two examples of a serendipitous event: You are having a difficult time and you randomly open the Bible to the answer God has specifically for you. Or you are at the exact place you should be at the exact time you should be there, but it was all unplanned by you. The serendipitous events are incredible faith boosters for you and they cause you to leap into the arms of the Father as you pray, remembering them. These things comprise and enhance your personal testimony. Keep a journal of serendipitous events in which God's hand seems obvious. Review your entries, should you be caught up in the appearances of the world.

Now you are ready to make prayer less of a mental struggle to know the truth, and more of a relaxing into His love and peace. Like John, you can be a disciple who rests his head on the Savior's bosom, in tender love and adoration, just as a child would his father or best friend. For now, merely ask the Holy Spirit to put a prayer into your heart. Trust that He'll do this. In order to have Him put a prayer in our hearts, we must leave the carnal struggle in which we insist we have to control everything. We must trust Him. We must humbly give Jesus all control. The Holy Spirit's prayer does not involve words. His prayer brings a sense of very deep peace and a deep, deep longing for the Savior, Jesus Christ. Ultimately, all prayers are for this, no matter what we may be asking for. Ultimately, we desire a continual walk with our Lord and there is no earthly thing that we want that would satisfy us like He does. The Holy Spirit, then, makes our prayers become a solid string of desires for Jesus as He petitions heaven through us. This is all we want. Praise God, this is all we need!
