In God We Trust

How tight is our grip on God? Do we find ourselves gripping tighter still when we are deluged with appearances that suggest that Satan commands a mighty force? Or do we begin to judge by that appearance and actually think that maybe Satan does have the power to defeat us and thereby, Jesus? Does our sick body scream that God can't be trusted? Are we continually run off the road on life's highway and, once off, completely unsure how to get back on?

How much do we trust God?

Trusting God means nothing if, at times of our complete bewilderment, we don't think God will come through for us and act in our highest good. When life throws a major curve ball, or a conflict at us, and we can see no way out of this conflict, we must trust God at this time. It must be God at bat, not us. The moment we pick up the bat and step up to the plate and begin our practice swing, we must step back out and let God pinch hit for us. We must recognize that we can't swing it, but He can. We must be willing to drop our imaginative prophetic thinking on this as well. In other words, when we think we know the answer to the conflict and even think about stepping up the plate to swing our bat at this curve ball life as thrown, this is when red flags should be flying. This is when we must, once again, step back and give it all up to Him. We must deliberately NOT know what is going on so that we can be wonderfully surprised by God, when He supplies His answer. It comes down to believing He works all things for our good.

It is in thinking we know what we want to do, regarding any situation, which signifies a lack of trust in God. God is so much mightier than we give Him credit for! This whole world is built on the premise that God can't be trusted, therefore, we've got to do it all ourselves. Yet we falter, despite years of applying man's intelligence and improvements to life. Everything man creates eventually crumbles through war, and disasters—both man-caused and natural. I believe God created everything and everyone as He wanted it and that nothing more is needed. Can we see that life becomes faster and more complex the harder man tries to make things easier? How can we improve upon perfection? Yes, He created us perfect and we disobeyed Him, which led to a disappointing history of life outside the Garden. Even with Jesus' limp body taken down from the cross, His blood completely shed for us, now risen from the grave, why must we continue to live outside the Garden? Did not Jesus restore us to the Garden? Does He not give us access to eternal life through Him? Is it asking too much that our eternal life with Jesus begin now?

Nothing God created (and none of His works in our lives) has to be improved. His works are complete and whole and perfect NOW, since Jesus came into our hearts. He still has to cut or prune away all of the stuff that was put into us by the carnal world, so we can let go of the image WE or others created of ourselves. This is what takes all our time. God is not creating us, but is shearing away the wool that has fallen in front of our eyes. God's kingdom is not partially finished, needing our attention in order that it be completed. Just before Christ died, He said, “It is finished!” The veil that separated us from God was torn. So, too, was the shroud that kept us in the dark, unable to have our infestations exposed. How wonderful that Jesus sent the Comforter who, besides consoling us, also reveals the infestations in our souls that we have kept hidden. He urges us to give these dark spots in our souls, our burdens, to Him. In this game of life, if we keep them, we lose. When we, in utter contrition, swallow our pride, confess our sins and forgive the sins of others, the windows of heaven are opened within us and more of God's fruit is distributed. The love God has for us becomes the love He has for everyone else, too. The arms of God, wrapped so tightly and secure around our lives, now become available to others, who, not even knowing it was His love they craved for, find wonderful fulfillment, all because we shared the fruit of God's spirit with them.

When we fell, eons ago, out of God's grace it was because we chose to be rebellious and do things our own way. God sent His Son, Jesus, to rectify this situation, and now that we are covered in His blood, we once again can claim the truth that what God created perfect needs nothing further to make it more perfect. Christ clinched it for us. Accept that sins are gone and they are no longer a factor, no longer part of our make-up. God's original, sinless creations are back…and boy, are they loving! Our sins play no part in our lives or the lives of others any more. We trust God so much that we need no longer dwell on our sins or the sins of others. We, now confident of God's grace and mercy, are free from the need to judge once and for all.

Can we trust God that much? We have such a strong need to launch ourselves right into the thick of things, thinking we can fix them. God would prefer we stay out of His work, stand back, and pray for those whom we perceive as in need. Of course, if God calls on us to supply food to the needy, medical care to the sick, or any material in order to heal or relieve all in need physically, then we must do it. But ultimately, it must be realized that we share God's attributes and are actually spiritual beings, not physical beings. Praying for people allows us to bolster the spiritual dependence we should have and decrease the physical dependence that we need to gradually release. Praying for people is a way of knowing the truth for them. They may be too caught up in the world of appearances and unable to grasp the truth that God CAN fix the problem, no matter what it is. When the light, shining from the cross, is allowed to penetrate the darkness, we actually awaken to the truth which is far greater than we could ever have imagined it to be. We may even look with wonder around us at people, who stare down dead end roads, feeling helpless and hopeless, wondering how they can miss the light of God shining brightly from the cross, in the darkness? We, no longer entombed in the world of appearances, then become eager givers of the light and excited sharers of God's love through His Son, Jesus Christ. This is the time when God can truly use us. Trusting God will help us know in an even greater degree, that God's spirit can move mountains in our lives. There is nothing that can withstand God's answer, once it is given and nothing that can take the place of God's answer, once it is recognized. His answer is Jesus. Praise God for this.
