Cartoon rendition of a dam.

The Dam

Rain
     Heavenly
          Coming down in sheets
          Gathering in pools
               And trickling streams
                    Until
               A lake is formed

Crusty
     Rusty build-up
          Of mental rubbish
               Piled precariously
                    To form a dam
                    A block
               To cause a slow flow
                                   then
                                   no
                                   flow

Break it!
     Hack away at it-
          Chip it away
               With humble prayer
               With a smile
               With a ray of sunlight
                    A thin stream
                                 flows    bigger   and   bigger

               Until the crusty
                              rusty
                              heap of garbage

                 bobs                  into
Breaks apart and      away      stream      dissolution
                           down

We've spent years and years believing in things that are simply not true. Can we, then, expect to find God on our first venture within? Of course not. We should not have that type of expectation. God will not be found until some of the debris that has built up over the years is broken free and dissolved by persistent prayer and bearing of our crosses. We must humbly forgive those around us who irritate us, and humbly search our hearts for areas of pride that are, as yet, unhealed. Since it is very difficult to recognize these areas in ourselves, God gave us others, so that they might bring out the ungodly traits, which we can clearly see in our reactions to them. We can then place them on the altar to God and allow Him to dissolve them, thereby clearing our vision a little more. poem, poetry
