Our Father Knows Best
I was watching a rerun of Father Knows Best which was popular from the mid 50s through the early 60s. The Anderson family was sitting around the living room, listening to a short wave radio. They began picking up information coming from hundreds of miles away, regarding a family on a cabin cruiser.
The Coast Guard began issuing weather warnings but the family on the cruiser missed them. The weather began to get ominous. The father on the boat began sending out May Day messages but due to weird weather patterns the messages were garbled to those close by. The Coast Guard knew someone was in trouble but they didn't know who or where they were.
The Anderson family was sitting at home comfortably (though caught up in the drama and on the edge of their seats). The short wave signals were "skipping" long distance to their short wave set, enabling them to hear the distress calls perfectly.
Bud echoed the Anderson family's sentiment when he suddenly said, "Why doesn't somebody call up the Coast Guard?" At this point the Anderson family still felt detached. They recognized a call for help but they were still in the state of being entertained at home.
When the father on the boat said, "If anyone out there can hear us, please call the Coast Guard," the Anderson family woke up, as if from a dream, and called the Coast Guard. Of course a successful rescue occurred and over the radio came, "Whoever called in, God bless you."
Dangers, dramas, and anguish skip around this world. We saved can call, connect with the Source and become instruments of peace and comfort for everyone around us which will increase the flock for the Good Shepherd. God put us here to be truly helpful and we know our Father knows best.
