Chapter 7

Flexing the Muscle of God

This book is about how we can love the atheists. They could be considered the Christians' enemy. Deciding to pray for one's enemies is one of the best choices we can make because Jesus asked us to do that. We need to pray for the atheists, agnostics, and secular humanists among us, because they are very antagonist toward the Christians and the Christians' faith.

Since it is difficult to pray for a large faceless segment of society, let's pray for the following four outspoken individuals. I am grateful to them, for they have raised to my awareness the fact that we Christians have allowed our belief in God deteriorate into mush, and our faith to wane into darkness. Many of us may go to church a day or two each week, but when it comes to following Jesus' commands to love our enemies and to not take offence, we have blown it badly. These four atheistic voices, echoing loudly through our world, at this time have been called The New Atheists by Ronald Aronson, a writer for The Nation. They are:

Richard Dawkins
(The God Delusion)

Christopher Hitchens
(God Is Not Great)

Sam Harris
(The End of Faith)

Daniel Dennett
(Breaking the Spell)

I am making a public announcement, through this book, that we Christians should choose one or more of these individuals to pray for, day and night (as often as we can). There will be a stirring and healing in your Christian heart, once you start doing this. The reason for this stirring and healing will be because of a biblical truth that I discussed earlier. God forgives us of the same problem in us that causes us to feel irritation toward another. We would not feel contempt rising up in us if we did not have some degree of the very thing we detest in others. By the way, this is a very good gauge to determine when we need to pray, asking God to forgive the irritations we perceive in other people.

If we can keep these four vocal atheists under the wing of God, by our heartfelt and penitent prayers for them, we will be doing a great service to our world. Remember the proper attitude we must have. We must cry out for their souls, plead, in their absence of prayer for themselves, that God would show them mercy and lead them into all-truth. This is not the time to whine to God about their behavior. Can you understand that we have allowed what used to be God's mighty church, to fall into ruin, by our apathy? These four godless voices are passing competitors in the race for souls, flinging their dust in our faces. But God has placed them before us that they should encourage us to pick up the pace, rev up our engines, and stoke up the Body of Christ, as we prepare for the Final Harvest of souls for God's kingdom. Remember God's preference to work with the hot or cold, but He finds the lukewarm distasteful and will spew them out of His mouth. Don't be lukewarm about this call to love the atheist, and every other sinner.

Now that I've declared our God-inspired plan for dealing with the entire atheistic and secular humanist community (around the world), I want to do my own part in this process, publicly. I will personally be praying for Professor Richard Dawkins, author of The God Delusion. I will be addressing specific incidents from his book, which is a direct, frontal attack on God. I will be frequently stopping to pray for understanding between us, as well as help promote the truth as God's Word explains it and as God moves in my heart. I sincerely want him to know that though he is wrong about there being no God, he is quite loved by me, as Christ loves us all. Even though, at times, God will inspire me to be tough and let the hammer of truth fall, I do want to show him how much God loves him and fully intend to buffer it all with my humble spirit. In the following chapters, I will do just that. You may want to choose any of the above New Atheists and do the same. If you like, you may follow my example.

Isa 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, says the Lord. (AMP)
And pray together as well.
