Inventions, Gadgets, and GizmosA bunch of unidentified gadgets that must have been invented to do something---now what was it?

My wife and I were living in a duplex in Salt Lake City and decided it would be nice to have a backyard sprinkler system. A knowledgeable friend and I began the process of putting one in, only to discover that the spigot, from which we were going to run the sprinklers, was inadequate. Apparently it was designed to keep the cold winters from freezing the water in the pipes. Now, as I attempted to use that spigot for a summer sprinkling system, the highly specific nature of this invention was impeding the operation.

The engineer who thought that a special kind of pipe designed to keep the water from freezing in the winter apparently did not think it could turn into a problem in the summer. This, however, is a good example of the highly specific nature of gadgets and inventions here in the world. Everything is designed to work specifically, not generally.

God is not limited to that type of thinking. He does not need the "high specificity" that I need to survive here. Through Christ Jesus, He shared His mind with me and I have the potential to use my mind like He does. But this strange world I have made has become a place of heavy experimentation in which I try to find gizmos that do this (but can't do that) and devices and inventions that take care of the myriad problems this world contains but, frustratingly, can't eliminate them all.

Indeed, in some cases the new devices create brand new problems to deal with. For instance in the past there was no way I could watch the late night talk shows if I had to be in bed by 10:00 PM. Then along came a wonderful new device known as a VCR that allowed me to do time shifting. Yes, at last, I COULD watch the late night talk show the next day at my convenience. How wonderful! Unpacking the new VCR and setting it up was very exciting.

But, upon pulling out the instruction booklet, I realized something horrible that could not have been anticipated. Staring at the instruction booklet, it dawned on me that I couldn't understand how to work it. I sighed heavily and thought, "Maybe I could stay up a little later to watch that show" certain that solution was easier to deal with than attempting to understand the VCR instruction booklet.

The world is filled with examples just like that. They are to the right of me and to the left of me and straight ahead. No matter where I look or where I go, there is a dizzying array of specific problems requiring specific solutions.

There is only one problem and God sent the solution to that one problem. The solution is Jesus. Fortunately, it is very simple to obtain Christ's mind in this world of countless problems and infinite number of solutions, in which some work for a short time while others work a little longer. Eventually ALL of them will fail. We must accept the Lord as our Savior so that He can do His work in our hearts and bring us into line with God's Mind. He is the only way there.

It is amazingly simple to accept Him. Get down on your knees and humbly ask Him to come into your heart. He will. He's been waiting for you for a long time. Once that is done, you will still be in the world, finding problems that require worldly solutions but, with your heart now in the Lord's hands, you will find more peace about it. Additionally, you must study God's Word, the Bible, and learn to listen to the Holy Spirit who does know all about this carnal world but, as He leads you from it, He will lighten your load, take your burdens, and leave you free to do the work He has asked you to do.

Christ's mind, which you will share once you are saved, is simple. Everything God created is whole and universally utilizable by His children. Everything we need to function in this world will be given to us, as we learn to hear God's Voice. Truly, His spirit will be bolstering us, lifting us up above the confusion and hopelessness the carnal world cries is real.

Now that I am saved, deep beneath the crust that makes up my carnal mind there is God's untarnished loving mind. Every day I draw steadily closer to this dawning and, though I experience much confusion, as my old ways are tossed aside, I also experience a joyous anticipation that is growing within me, of something so much better to come.

Yes, I will know. Yes, I am willing to let go. Yes, yes, yes! And it isn't hard. The world? The life I lead here? That is what is hard!
